With 50/1 leverage, $100 lets you buy or sell $5000 in metal. The spread is the only cost. For silver it's .04 an ounce. For gold it's $4 an ounce. Not bad really, when you consider daily fluctuations are often three or four times as much. Oanda's FREE FXgame account also provides great charts and 5-50k in play money to experiment with their trading platform. It's a Java app, which works with your browser, so you don't need to install any software.
